A study presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) this week by the University of Gothenburg, showed that more than 18,000 people with Type 1 Diabetes who used insulin pumps to administer insulin rather than treatment with multiple daily insulin injections resulted in a 29% reduction in all-cause mortality and a 43% reduction in the risk of fatal cardiovascular disease.
Very few studies have examined the long term risk or CVD and mortality on individuals using Insulin pump treatment even though insulin pump therapy has been around for over 30 years. This study was conducted over a period of 7 years using patients with Type 1 Diabetes in the Swedish National Diabetes Register.
