This one day course is designed to give participants a comprehensive approach in self-managing your diabetes, by covering ALL aspects needed to self-manage with confidence and effectively.
Set in scenic West Cork, in a peaceful rural setting, facilitated by Helena Farrell RGN, MSc, this day will offer individuals time to explore aspects of their diabetes that bothers them, as well as learning new skills, techniques and approaches.
Family Members, Professionals and Carers are also welcome.
09.30am: Welcome & Introductions
Cookery Class – learn cooking methods based on the Low GI Diet, recipe ideas, meal planning, shopping on a budget etc
12md – 1pm:
Exercise Class – This class will look at distinguishing the types of exercises needed for diabetes and for weight loss. This is suitable for all levels of fitness.
Lunch will be served following the principles of Low GI
Understanding Blood Glucose Levels – Pattern Management, understanding blood glucose fluctuations, highs and lows will be covered, as well as monitoring techniques and equipment
3pm – 3.30pm:
Managing Stress & How it Effects Your Diabetes
HbA1c & Cholesterol Testing
